Joining SoL’s Sustainability Consortium, co-founded and convened by Seed Systems' Sara Schley and Joe Laur, was undoubtedly the single most transformational step for the early sustainability leaders at Nike. Creating the space for exploring the unknown, the capacity to reflect on complex issues that were still invisible to much of the corporate world, and collaborating with other leaders to design potential new and more holistic, systemic business models...this was essential to the progress Nike has made to date. Too often within the business setting it's more critical to have the 'right' answer to achieve growth targets, versus asking the questions that open the space to what is not just possible, but necessary. The practices of SoL and its practitioners have been both a safe haven to stumble and learn, as well as the foundation to take the next step in what is likely an unending journey.

Partnership is essential to sustainable communities. The cyclical exchange of energy and resources in an ecosystem are sustained by pervasive cooperation. Indeed since the creation of the first cells over 2 billion years ago, life on Earth has preceded through ever more intricate arrangements on cooperation an co-evolution. Partnership is a hallmark of life.
